EVERGREEN CEMETERY in SANTA CRUZ was established in the 1850's.  Evergreen is one of the first non-Catholic gravesites in California.  In 1968 Evergreen Cemetery was offically designated as a "Point of Historical Interest".

In 1998 we buried the Unknown Clamper at the cemetery.  In 1996 a skeleton was found during routine brush clearing in Roaring Camp Railroad, on the slopes of Graham Hill Road, in Felton.  Found on the corpse was: a patch of red shirt, gold watch, glasses, fully loaded Colt revolver in the right hand, a "pumpkin see bottle" which had held morphine or Laudanum. A .44 bullet had shattered the lower left rib cage.  The dead person had been lying in wait for someone else, who appeared behind him, and got off the first, fatal shot.

Branciforte Brothers volunteer to assist the Evergreen Cemetery Association to preserve this historic resting place in honor of those who have gone before us to the Golden Hills. See our plaques.  The Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History appreciates 1797 for their hard work at the cemetery. http://www.santacruzmah.org

DAVENPORT JAIL MUSEUM was built in 1914, this two-cell county jail was used only once before being abandoned in 1936. Fifty years later it was given a new purpose when it was converted into a museum of North Coast history in 1987. Its intriguing permanent exhibition explores aspects of the North Coast story such as native settlements, the natural environment, major industries, early families, and community life. Davenport Jail is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The town of Davenport is 11 miles north of Santa Cruz on Highway 1.
