Tri Chapter Fishing Derby

A Huge Success

BRANCIFORTE 1797’s 1st Annual Invitational Deep Water Fishing Derby Challenge on April 1, 6009 was a huge success. The Moss Landing, Ca. charter boats were full of old salt water 1797 Clampers, friendly fishermen from 1850 and ardent anglers from 1846. Following a Clamper Breakfast the challenge was on. Each charter headed out to their own secret spot in Monterey Bay. The weather was great for the Challenge. The Pacific lived up to its name with calm glassy seas.

The mighty engines on Branciforte’s luxury charter “The Bodacious Belle” left the two smaller charters behind in the mist. The hearty Clamp Breakfast proved substantial as the 1797 Red Shirts cast their lines. The sound if singing reels and splashing fins filled the air. Lines were full of giant fish. Huge Salmon appeared from the depths. Did someone land a Marlin? Passing whales and their calves stopped short at the furious activity aboard the “Belle”.

Off in the distance could be heard loud explosive reports as the desperate Monterey Viejo charter was reduced to using their crafty dynamite Lures. The Mountain Charlie charter was no where to be seen as the 1797 Brothers caught their limits and headed for the dock. One of the whales, a shark and a sky full of gulls followed the loaded “Belle”

The happy 1797 Red Shirts were busy passing the slippery, unloading their catch and taking photos when two huge trophies were discovered. Near by Monterey Bay Aquarium Scientists emerged from their stately headquarters and rushed to the “Belle” with offers to preserve and display her trophies at their Aquarium. But NGH “Well Read” Read and VNGH “Smokey” Turnidge, who landed the trophies were quickly  persuaded by  XNGH Don “The Chisler” Jersey  to allow him to  Hawk them at 1797’s  June 26, 6009 Chiopino Feed, (that's another story)

The disappointed Scientists selected the huge whale and the shark instead. They reported the presence of a hump back and a great white patiently waiting at the dock along side the “Belle” was a harbor first. They pledged to prepare a commemorative plaque at the Aquarium honoring the 1797 donation.

The gulls were last seen heading West to find the missing 1850 and 1846 Brothers.
